Saturday, December 7, Ligurian Fencing at Decathlon Genoa Campi with the European Championships in sight
The journey towards the European Senior Fencing Championships, scheduled to take place at the Jean Nouvel and the Palasport in Genoa from June 14 to 19, continues. Following the promotional events in September and October in Chiavari, Portofino, and Genoa’s historic center, there is a new opportunity to discover Italy’s most medal-winning discipline at the Olympic Games. On Saturday afternoon, at Decathlon Genova Campi, it will be possible to try fencing, and starting at 5 PM, spectators can enjoy a three-weapon relay featuring Ligurian FIS clubs: sabre with athletes from Club Scherma Voltri, foil with Club Scherma Rapallo, and épée with Centro Sportivo Sant’Olcese and Chiavari Scherma.
The relay will feature all athletes rotating in a crescendo of excitement, culminating in the final decisive touches. “It’s a format highly appreciated by the public,” says Giovanni Falcini, coordinator of the European Championships Organizing Committee and re-elected president of the Regional Committee of the Italian Fencing Federation. “After the success of the previous three events, we hope to engage a new audience, already potentially interested in the world of sports but who have not yet attended our events up close.”
The “Genoa 2025” European Championships, organized with the support of the Italian Fencing Federation (FIS), are backed by the Liguria Region and the Municipality of Genoa, with sponsorship from CONI and Sport e Salute. Partners of the 2025 Championships include Costa Edutainment, ERG, Saar Depositi Portuali, Toyota, Gruppo Spinelli, Iveco, Silomar, Riberti, Columbus Informatica, and Convention Bureau Genova.
